Polihale State Park

so hot!

sunny 31 °C

The next morning we head to Barking Sands Beach at Polihale State Park. It's a flat dusty road with ocean on the left and red mountains rising out of the farm land to the right. It is the Labour Day weekend, and the beach is packed with kids and there jacked up jeeps and trucks. The music is pumping as the trucks rev up and down the beach, wheels spinning, and sand flying. It is not the peaceful beach we were expecting, but the mountains and beach are still stunning.

There isn't shade anywhere, so we had to prop up a tarp to hide out under. The sand blisters our feet as we run to the ocean to cool down. As night approaches, we try to catch crabs in the surf with no luck. Earlier, we did some garbage salvaging, and scored a lawn chair! Finally, somewhere to sit other than rock and logs. We drag the chair and some snacks out on the beach and watch the sparkling night sky for shooting stars before heading to bed.

What an amazing hike! You wouldn't have made me walk on the ledge/edge! The photos are spectacular. Looks hot! We are having lots of rain and cold winds, blah.
